KDR produced a dramatic late comeback to take all three points in an entertaining five-goal thriller against Huddersfield Amateur, with Liam Dean striking in the dying minutes to seal a memorable 3-2 victory.

Played in difficult windy conditions, both sides showed attacking intent from the first whistle, and the match quickly developed into an end-to-end contest full of chances, crunching tackles and moments of quality.

KDR started brightly and nearly took the lead inside the opening five minutes when midfielder Ryan Mallinson drove through the centre of the pitch before slipping a pass into striker Callum Hargreaves. His low effort beat the goalkeeper but clipped the outside of the post and rolled wide.

That early warning sparked Huddersfield Amateur into life and the hosts gradually began to control possession. Their pressure paid off midway through the first half when a dangerous inswinging corner caused chaos in the KDR penalty area. After a scramble involving several players, the ball eventually fell kindly for the home side’s captain, who smashed home from close range to make it 1-0.

KDR responded positively and continued to threaten down both flanks. Winger Jamie Brook caused problems throughout the afternoon with his direct running, and it was his delivery that brought the equaliser just before half time. Brook whipped in a teasing cross from the right-hand side and Hargreaves rose highest to glance a header into the far corner, sending the travelling supporters into loud celebrations.

Match Comment

I’m delighted for the lads because they showed real belief right until the final whistle. Huddersfield Amateur are a very good side and twice we had to respond after going behind, but the players never panicked and kept trying to play football the right way.
